ELIJAH JOSHUA WILLIAMS: Ex-NBA star's father co-owned construction firm

November 14, 2009

BLUFFTON, S.C. -- The father of former NBA star Jayson Williams has died.

Elijah Joshua "E.J." Williams died Tuesday of complications from a series of strokes at his son's home. He was 76.

Mr. Williams was a longtime resident of Ritter, S.C., and owned a construction company with his son.

Jayson Williams played nine seasons for the 76ers and Nets, retiring in 2000.

He faces a retrial in January on reckless manslaughter charges in the fatal shooting of a hired driver at his New Jersey estate in 2002.
