11-year-old busted for dealing pot at school
INGALLS, Ind. -- An 11-year-old boy will likely face juvenile charges after he was allegedly caught dealing marijuana to his elementary school classmates.
The youngster was taken into police custody last week after officials at Maple Ridge Elementary School said they caught the sixth-grader dealing marijuana to fellow students.
''He was trying to sell the product to other students, who turned him in to the principal,'' said Ingalls Police Lt. Chris Thompson.
The boy was released to his mother after he spoke to police.
Thompson said that Wednesday night he arrested a man, 33-year-old Eric S. McCrae -- the stepfather of a friend of the boy -- on suspicion of possession of marijuana after serving a search warrant for his home and car.
During a probable cause hearing to obtain the warrant, Thompson told a Madison Circuit Court judge that the boy told investigators his friend, McCrae's stepson, took the marijuana from a lockbox in McCrae's garage after picking the lock with a knife.
Madison County Deputy Prosecutor Steve Koester said during the search warrant hearing that the boy who allegedly brought the marijuana to school will likely face charges in juvenile court.
