Updated: October 16, 2013 8:50AM

DECATUR — A man who works for the public transit agency in Decatur is facing charges after police say he stole more than $172,000 in bus fare over the past three years.

The Decatur Herald & Review reported Mark Gordon was arrested this weekend. Police records show the 56-year-old was found with a canvas bag filled with $1 bills, loose change and bus fare coins.

Authorities say Gordon has been a maintenance supervisor in the Decatur Mass Transit System since 2010.

He’s charged with felony theft and was released on bond.

It wasn’t clear if Gordon had an attorney and his telephone number was busy Wednesday. He’s set to return to court Nov. 12.
