DU QUOIN — Southern Illinois authorities have released the name of an 83-year-old man who died this weekend in a Du Quoin house explosion.

Perry County Coroner Paul Searb identified the man as Harold A. Pundsack. An autopsy is expected Tuesday.

Authorities are still investigating what sparked Sunday’s blast, which damaged about a dozen homes in the area.

WSIL-TV says one of the homes will need to be torn down.

The Southern Illinoisan says Pundsack was alone in the home when it exploded.

A funeral will be held Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Du Quoin.
