A record number of applications has been submitted to the University of Illinois for the coming school year — 33,178. That’s almost 2,000 more than last year.
Applications were up in all categories — among Illinois residents, out-of-state students and international students.
Stacey Kostell, the university’s director of undergraduate admissions, says the growth in the number of in-state applicants, which made up slightly more than half of the total, is seen as a success because there are fewer high school graduates in Illinois this year.
