DETROIT — The husband of a Detroit-area marketing executive has been charged with first-degree murder, 15 months after his wife was strangled at her suburban home.
Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced the charge Wednesday against Robert Bashara, who has repeatedly denied a role in Jane Bashara’s death. He’s also charged with conspiracy and other charges.
She was killed at her Grosse Pointe Park home before her body was abandoned inside her sport utility vehicle, in Detroit.
A handyman, Joseph Gentz, is serving a 17-year prison sentence after admitting he killed Bashara. But he says he acted on the threats and orders of 55-year-old Robert Bashara.
Robert Bashara is in prison in northern Michigan. He’s serving a minimum sentence of 6 ½ years for trying to have Gentz killed in jail.
