ROMULUS, Mich. — Authorities say an auto engine plant was evacuated and police took a man into custody after 911 calls that he had a gun at the facility.
Romulus police Sgt. Corey Sadler tells The Associated Press that officers responded to the General Motors Co. engine plant after the calls about 6:10 a.m. Friday. He says police spoke with the man and cleared everyone else from the facility before taking him into custody about 6:50 a.m.
Sadler says no injuries were reported. He says the man may have wanted to harm himself, so he’ll likely be referred to health officials for evaluation.
Sadler says officers gave the OK for people to return to the plant, which employs hundreds and makes a variety of six- and eight-cylinder engines.
