Alton man accused of dragging puppy along sidewalk

ALTON, Ill. — A downstate Illinois man is accused of dragging a puppy along a downtown sidewalk in the Mississippi River city of Alton.
The Alton Telegraph reports Michael Thomas, 38, of Alton is charged in Madison County with a misdemeanor count of animal cruelty.
Authorities say witnesses saw Thomas allegedly mistreating the yellow, 3-month-old female Labrador as he tried to walk it for several blocks Saturday.
The newspaper reports the dog had abrasions on two legs and was taken into the custody of animal control officers.
