Updated: March 28, 2013 1:40PM

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — A Detroit police officer is charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a teenager he met through a boot camp program advertised for troubled youth.

The Oakland County prosecutor’s office says Geoffrey Townsend, 43, was arraigned Wednesday.

The incidents reportedly happened between October 2010 and August 2012 in Townsend’s Farmington Hills home, northwest of Detroit.

Prosecutor Jessica Cooper says the victim was born in 1997 and was acquainted with Townsend through “Reality Check Detroit.” She says Townsend is a founder of the boot camp which was operated outside his employment as a police officer.

Cooper says other teenagers may have been victimized.

Townsend’s preliminary hearing is April 5.
