ANNA — Four Downstate Illinois teenagers are facing felony charges related to the beating of a 16-year-old boy in the tiny community of Anna.
Union County prosecutors have charged the four, ranging in age from 17 to 19, with aggravated battery. Their bonds were set at $100,000 apiece.
Authorities say the victim was beaten March 9 in a downtown Anna parking lot. He was taken to a local hospital before being transferred by helicopter to one in St. Louis.
The victim returned to Anna-Jonesboro Community High School on Tuesday. The school district’s superintendent says the attack wasn’t school-related.
The possible motive for the beating hasn’t been released.
