Obama team raised $181 million in September

President Barack Obama’s campaign manager Jim Messina announced Saturday raising $181 million in September, between the campaign and the Democratic National Committee, the biggest month of the 2012 campaign.

Mitt Romney’s campaign has not released September totals.

In August, Romney’s campaign and the Republican National Committee raised $111 million to $114 million for Obama and the Democratic National Committee.

In July, Romney and the Republican National Committee raised $101.3 million to Obama and Democratic National Committee total of $75 million.

In June, Romney raised $106.1 million combo to $71 million for Obama combo.

In May, Romney collected $76.8 million combo to Obama’s $60 million combo

Here is the memo from Messina describing the “huge” news:

I have some huge news, and I want you to be the first to hear about it.

We not only surpassed 10 million donations so far in 2012 to the campaign and the Democratic Party -- a historic record for grassroots politics.

We also raised $181 million in September from 1.8 million Americans -- more than 567,000 of whom gave for the first time. That’s by far our biggest month yet.

More important than how much we raised is how we did it: The average donation was $53, and 98 percent of our contributions were $250 or less.

We can’t stop now -- every donation you make strengthens this campaign (and sets a new record). Chip in $13 or more today, and keep this momentum going.

The people and the stories behind these numbers are what make this grassroots organization so powerful:

“I may not have 10 million dollars to smear someone on television, but my ten dollars matters -- it says I have a voice.”

- Robert from Colorado

“I give because I’m thinking about my grandchildren and my great-grandchildren. [President Obama] is going to make a difference for the generations to come. ... Pretty soon, I’ll be getting my car tuned up to take people to the polls come November 6th.”

- Sarah from North Carolina

“$15 means something these days and deserves a moment of pause (and some words on paper) for this girl and her family of Obama fans. $15 is a special pizza dinner at our local pizza stop (Poppi’s in Wynnewood). ... I refuse to allow new laws to stop us/me from being A PART of this campaign. After all, I will never be a ‘player’ (in the political sense), but I still want to believe I can play a part.”

- Sandy from Pennsylvania

You, Robert, Sarah, Sandy, and millions of other supporters are building a campaign that belongs to everyday Americans -- not Washington special interests.

And what a campaign you’re building -- check it out:

1) In September, we opened our 100th field office in Ohio -- and in Florida, too.

2) This week, our team registered 10,000 voters in Florida. In one day.

3) In Iowa, where you can vote early, more than 105,000 people have already voted -- 62 percent of those voters are Democrats, compared to just 20 percent who are Republicans.

There is exactly one month left to go until Election Day. The stakes are too high for us to take our foot off the gas now. Chip in $13 or more, and let’s go win:

Day in and day out, what gives the President confidence and inspiration is knowing that you have his back -- that matters. We’re all going to do the best we can over next 31 days to honor that support.

Thanks -- more soon.
