Driver shoots at police dog after S. California chase

An armed driver bailed out of a stolen car and fired at a police dog after a wild hours-long Southern California freeway chase.

Police say the dog wasn’t hit and the 22-year-old driver was arrested. The suspect’s name is being withheld.

California Highway Patrol officers began chasing the stolen car on State Route 60 east of Los Angeles at 6:16 p.m. Monday.

City News Service reports the chase continued on freeways at speeds up to 90 mph before the driver sped through downtown streets and crashed at about 8:30 p.m. in South Los Angeles.

The driver and a passenger jumped out of the car and ran. Authorities say the police dog found the driver hiding in a shed and the man fired several times before he was arrested.
