CLEVELAND — An orangutan at the Cleveland Zoo has become the first such animal in North America to receive an implanted birth control device.
A Cleveland Clinic women’s health specialist made a house call to the zoo to help veterinarians implant the contraceptive.
“We as humans have received so much from the animals,” Dr. Judith Volkar of the Cleveland Clinic said afterward. “It’s good to be able to give something back.”
