RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (AP) — A prosecutor says a 15-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting his older sister in western Arkansas is being held on a $750,000 bond, though formal murder charges haven’t been filed.
The boy’s initial court hearing Tuesday in Russellville was closed to the public. The boy hasn’t been identified because of his age, though prosecutor David Gibbons says he plans to charge the boy as an adult.
Gibbons says the boy stood alone before the judge without his parents or an attorney. He was appointed a public defender. His next court date is March 1.
Authorities say the boy showed up at a sheriff’s office Sunday and told investigators he shot his 16-year-old sister at their home near Ozark, a town about 130 miles northwest of Little Rock.
