On Thursday while informing principals and local school councils of school closings and consolidations, Chicago Public School officials distributed a list of elementary schools that children could still apply to, saying they would be open in the fall.
The list of about 277 elementary schools includes information about schools’ special programs.
Just because a school is not on the list does not necessarily mean it is on the list of schools to be closed. The list does not include all the schools that the district has categorized as “overcrowded.”
Nor does it include gifted programs or schools exclusively for special education students.
