As reported by the Chicago Daily News, sister paper of the Chicago Sun-Times:

100 years ago An ad encouraged whoever stole a fur muff from a Mrs. E.E. Booth of Oak Park while she was seeing a play with her husband at the Colonial Theater to return the pilfered item.

75 years ago The police said they believe "the slayer of Sgt. William Shanley was John Dillinger, the Indiana desperado who escaped a police trap several weeks ago." Dillinger and his sweetheart, Mary Jenkins, had escaped Nov. 17. Shanley was shot and killed at the Broadway Automobile Construction Company, 5320 Broadway.
