More than 50 students who were suspended for belonging to fraternities and sororities returned to Hyde Park High School and demanded readmission to their classes. Principal Hiram B. Loomis said no -- unless they signed a pledge renouncing the fraternities and sororities. The students refused and wouldn't leave until police arrived. "We are making no compromise," said Loomis. "The students must choose between their sororities or the high school."

More than 200 McHenry County dairy farmers engaged in a "fast and furious battle" in Harvard, as producers eager to make deliveries to the Bowman Dairy Co. plant broke a picket line. There were about an equal number of contestants on each side. One man fell after being hit by a blow "that sounded as if he had cracked his jaw." The man lay on the ground, unconscious, for some time before he was revived and taken to a hospital. Twelve deputy sheriffs swung blackjacks to give the delivering farmers some advantage in the "flying wedge through the picket line, but no skulls were cracked." When the smoke cleared, the line of producers with their loads began to stream into the plant.
