Former Blagojevich adviser Christopher Kelly to plead guilty
Another card may have fallen in the governor's house of cards. Christopher Kelly -- one of Gov. Blagojevich's closest advisers, fund-raisers and friends -- is set to plead guilty in his federal criminal case, according to a court filing.
Kelly was charged last year with failing to report gambling proceeds. He was not charged with conduct related to state deals but is widely known to be under scrutiny for fund-raising schemes under Blagojevich.
A source said Kelly is not cooperating with prosecutors in the Blagojevich case.
Court records show Kelly is scheduled to plead guilty Jan. 16. His trial had been scheduled for January.
Meanwhile, a federal judge has indefinitely postponed the Jan. 6 sentencing of Tony Rezko, another prominent former Blagojevich fund-raiser and adviser.
The move came after Rezko's lawyers asked U.S. District Judge Amy St. Eve last week to throw out the sentencing date.
Rezko's request came as he restarted talks with federal prosecutors. Those talks hit a stumbling block as Rezko asked to be let out of solitary confinement at the downtown federal lockup.
Rezko, at one point, asked to be sentenced. But last week's revelation that the government has recordings in the governor's corruption case appeared to change Rezko's mind about cooperating.
Rezko's lawyers did not ask for a new sentencing date at Tuesday's hearing.
