John Harris, Gov. Blagojevich's chief of staff, resigns
John Harris -- Gov. Blagojevich's chief of staff and co-defendant -- resigned Friday, and it was unclear whether Harris is considering cooperating in the government's case against Blagojevich.
"All I'm saying is he's resigned," said Terry Ekl, one of Harris' defense lawyers.
Harris has no plans to return to the governor's office ever again, Ekl said, though he could continue to be on the state payroll for some time as he collects vacation and accrued sick pay.
Prosecutors accused Harris, who is free on bond, of assisting Blagojevich in a series of pay-to-play schemes. Harris was a top aide for Mayor Daley, including posts as first deputy aviation commissioner and city budget director, before joining Blagojevich's staff in 2005.
