When unexplained bruising appeared on one of a Lincoln Park family’s infant twin boys, their doctor suggested installing a home surveillance system — a hidden “nanny cam,” police say.
The video camera confirmed the family’s suspicions: Their 65-year-old nanny was abusing the infants — punching, kicking and smothering them, police say.
Alice E. Vesely, of the 2700 bock of West Fitch, was charged this week with two counts of felony aggravated battery to a child. Investigators say the abuse captured on video occurred Jan. 9 at a home in the 600 block of West Willow. On Thursday, a Cook County judge ordered Vesely held on $300,000 bond.
The twins, less than a year old, were taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital, but neither suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.
It was unknown how long Vesely had worked as a nanny for the family.
