Upgraded charges are expected for a man accused of beating his father, who apparently died from his injuries Thursday morning.

Richard Lengyel, of the 1700 block of West Albion Avenue, was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. at Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston after the assault in his home, the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office said.

Police say the 55-year-old man suffered broken ribs and swelling to the brain after being beaten by his son, Steven Lengyel, on Tuesday.

Police allege the son used his fists to beat his father. The elder Lengyel was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston, where he lost consciousness, police said.

Steven Lengyel was arrested Wednesday and charged with aggravated domestic battery, but charges are expected to be upgraded, police said.

He’ll appear in bond court on Friday.
