U.S. sues Chicago food processor over bacteria

Updated: December 24, 2011 2:48PM

The federal government has sued a Chicago food processor it says failed to protect products from contamination.

The Justice Department filed suit Wednesday against Triple A Services Inc., and a judge granted a permanent injunction to stop the company from distributing food products packaged at the facility.

The government says Triple A wasn’t complying with federal regulations while preparing its ready-to-eat sandwiches and produce that are sold to the public, including through mobile-catering services.

Three company executives were named in the lawsuit.

Officials say inspections this summer and dating to 2001 revealed the presence of harmful bacteria in the facility. The Food and Drug Administration is not aware of any illnesses resulting from the alleged contamination.

The company didn’t respond to a request for comment.
