Boy, 4, woman killed in crash -- drivers flee

May 11, 2008

A 4-year-old Elgin boy and a 57-year-old woman from Mexico were killed in a rollover crash Friday night in which the drivers of both vehicles fled the scene.

Just before 9 p.m., a white van cut off a car on Interstate 90 near Illinois 31 near northwest suburban Dundee. The car swerved to avoid a crash but hit a Ford Expedition, causing it to roll over, State Police said.

Several of the SUV's seven occupants -- including the boy, Louis Crabales, and the woman, Maria Guadarrama -- were thrown from the vehicle. Before police arrived, the driver of the white van drove off, police said. Police said the driver of the SUV and a passenger ran from the scene. At least two other passengers were injured in the crash.
