Ex-Glendale Heights teacher pleads guilty to sex charge involving her former student
She'd been the 15-year-old boy's teacher in fifth grade
An ex-Glendale Heights teacher who carried on a year-long sexual relationship with one of her former students — a 15-year-old boy — was sentenced today to five years in prison.
As part of a plea deal with DuPage County prosecutors, 41-year-old Anastasia Pappas admitting having sex with the boy, her former student, in 2005 and 2006, while she was living with his family.
She had been the boy’s teacher when he was in fifth grade at Blackhawk Middle School in Glendale Heights, authorities said.
Pappas had also taught several of the boy’s older siblings.
She moved in with his family in 2001 and was living in the basement of the house when the relationship with the teenager began, prosecutors and family members said.
The relationship came to light in 2006, after the boy’s mother discovered love letters between the two.
The boy’s mother said after the sentencing that Pappas “betrayed’’ the hospitality the family offered her.
“She betrayed our trust,’’ the victim’s mother said. “We trusted her with all of our children and our house.’’
Pappas, who pleaded guilty to felony criminal sexual assault, offered no apology in court and left the Wheaton courtroom without comment.
She has three weeks to surrender to begin serving her prison term, which likely will keep her behind bars for about four years.
