Trying to draw an afternoon and evening crowd, Starbucks will begin serving beer and wine in five to seven Chicago area coffee shops next year.
Starbucks has been testing the concept in five shops in Seattle and one in Portland, Ore., for about two years, said company spokesman Alan Hilowitz. The concept allows Starbucks customers to meet up with friends or family at the coffee shops for glass of wine or beer and “small plates” of food, such as cured meats, almonds and nuts, he said. Yet if someone in the group chooses a latte, that’s still an option. Alcohol will be served after 2 p.m. Sun-Times Media
