Will County rejects firm’s request to stack shipping containers five high

Updated: November 17, 2011 8:00PM

Will County won’t let a trucking company stack its shipping containers more than three high at its storage yard near Channahon.

The county board voted 22-3 Thursday against the request from Cavalea. The company’s facility is at 23264 Youngs Road near Rock Run Rookery, a Will County forest preserve that opened this fall.

Cavalea said it needed to stack its containers five high to compete with other companies. But Joliet and Channahon filed objections to the plan.

All three county board members from that area — District 6 — voted against the request. Don Gould, R-Shorewood, said the board’s been firm about its three-high stacking rule.

“I think it’s important that we hold to it today,” Gould said.
