A purported gang member was ordered held without bond Saturday in the fatal shooting of a 5-year-old Elgin boy earlier this month.
Miguel Hernandez Jr. fired at the car Eric Galarza Jr. was traveling in with his parents, aunt and siblings in the 900 block of Elma on Oct. 7, authorities said. Eric was wounded and died a short time later at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
Hernandez, 27, is a known gang member, Elgin Police Chief Jeff Swoboda said. The apparent motive may have been revenge for shooting in Elgin, sources said.
They could not confirm reports that Eric’s father was the intended target.
Hernandez appeared in bond court in Rolling Meadows.
