The Illinois Department of Transportation on Friday approved a controversial heliport for the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, currently under construction in Streeterville. Some neighbors of the hospital’s new location, 225 E. Chicago, protested the heliport, saying it would by noisy and could be dangerous. Children’s Memorial Hospital has operated a rooftop heliport on its current hospital for more than 20 years, according to a hospital release.
