Aurora police said a man told them the crash that ended with his car plowing into a garage started when he swerved to miss some squirrels running across the road.
Jarod Rayford was driving in the 200 block of Westpark Avenue at 2:57 p.m. Thursday when he swerved to avoid the squirrels, slid on wet pavement and drove across a yard, over a fence and into a garage, police said.
About one-third of the garage collapsed. Damage to the building and items inside was estimated at a total of $25,000, police said.
Police refused to release Rayford’s age or address. He was charged with failure to reduce speed and driving too fast for conditions.
