A Park Ridge man died Sunday, days after he was involved in a crash at the same Northwest Side intersection where a woman and her teenage son died in an August DUI wreck.
Alexander Kouvalis, 77, of the 1200 block of East Devon Avenue in Park Ridge, was injured in the Friday traffic crash near the intersection of Sunnyside and Austin avenues, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
Kouvalis was pronounced dead Sunday at noon at Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, according to the medical examiner’s office.
A Jefferson Park District lieutenant said he may have been suffering from a medical emergency when the crash happened but had no further details.
An autopsy to determine the cause and manner of his death is scheduled for later Monday.
Claudia Delia, 35, and her son Bryan Delia, 16, were both killed in an Aug. 11 crash at the same intersection after a motorist plowed into their Honda Civic at a stop sign, officials said. Her fiance’s sons, ages 15 and 2, as well as a 16-year-old family friend were also injured in the crash.
Prosecutors said the driver, 35-year-old Richard K. Strum, of the 5400 block of North Mobile Avenue, had cannabis in his system at the time of the accident and ordered him held on $2 million bail.
He was charged with three felony counts of aggravated DUI in an accident involving bodily harm and two felony counts of aggravated DUI in an accident involving death in connection with the crash, according to police.
