Highwood Mayor Charlie Pecaro has been charged with drunken driving, about a half mile from his home.
Pecaro, 42, was pulled over at 2:34 a.m. Sunday in Highland Park near the intersection of Half Day Road and Western Avenue for allegedly driving without head or tail lights on and following too closely, according to the Highland Park Police Department’s arrest report.
Pecaro’s blood-alcohol content registered higher than the state’s .08 limit, according to the report. He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.
Pecaro was released on his own recognizance pending a Sept. 23 court date in Lake County Circuit Court in Waukegan.
Pecaro was not immediately available for comment Tuesday.
