Man found dead on baseball field identified

A man found dead on a North Side baseball field after being assaulted last Thursday has been identified.

The man -- identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office as 34-year-old Marvin Baker -- was found about noon Thursday on a baseball diamond in the 4500 block of North Clarendon Avenue, police News Affairs Officer Veejay Zala said.

An autopsy determined Baker, of 14 Oxford Dr. in Carpentersville, died of craniocerebral injuries, blunt force head trauma and assault, the medical examiner’s office said. The death was ruled a homicide.

A Town Hall District police captain said a civilian found the body and called police.

Chicago Park District spokeswoman Jessica Maxey-Faulkner could not provide further information.

Belmont Area detectives are investigating.
