A Chicago Police prisoner transport vehicle traveling on a South Side expressway caught fire late Sunday. No one was hurt.
The blaze started about 11:15 p.m. when the vehicle’s engine caught fire, police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
Two Chicago Police officers, as well as a prisoner they were transporting, were able to make it out of the vehicle safely and were not injured, Greer said.
Flames grew to engulf the vehicle in the southbound lanes of the Bishop Ford Expressway (I-94) near King Drive, an Illinois State Police District Chicago trooper said.
Chicago Fire Department crews responded to extinguish the fire, the trooper said. All lanes have been re-opened following the incident.
