Man fires gun after magazine subscription salesmen come to his door

A McHenry County man, upset that two solicitors came to his door to sell magazine subscriptions, pulled out a gun and fired a shot into the ground near them, police said.

Mark A. Molenaar, 50, was arrested after the salesmen ran off and called police, authorities said.

He was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. Police said it happened around 8 p.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of South Road — an unincorporated area near Fox River Grove.

Police recovered a Smith & Wesson revolver and several other firearms, authorities said.
