Police unearthed the decomposed body of a 12-year-old boy Wednesday buried under a concrete slab in Gary for at least two years.
Lake County Police, acting on information about a missing juvenile, located the boy’s body encased in concrete under a shed in the 5900 block of West 36th Ave.
Positive identification will require DNA testing, but investigators who have been working on the case believe they know the identity of the victim.
Police arrested a relative of the victim, who led investigators to the body, “wrapped in a blanket as described,” said Lake County, Ind., Sheriff John Buncich.
The suspect is expected to be charged today, Buncich said.
An anonymous tip from an out-of-state caller Sunday sent police searching Black Oak neighborhood trailer parks.
The caller told police the boy had been missing under “mysterious circumstances,” and had been killed and buried.
County crime lab technicians worked for hours to break up about two feet of concrete to locate the body.
