SPRINGFIELD — Gov. Quinn granted clemency Friday to 85 people, including those with convictions for arson, armed robbery, shoplifting and drug offenses.
In the same batch of clemency requests, which were ignored during impeached ex-Gov. Blagojevich‚s tenure, Quinn rejected 189 petitions seeking pardons or expungements.
His decisions on the cases means the governor now has acted on 1,195 clemency petitions since taking office in 2009. He has granted 467 of those clemency requests and rejected 728.
The governor’s office indicated that every person granted clemency by Quinn underwent a criminal background check by the Illinois State Police.
