$70 for a seat? Some could go for $950
OLYMPICS | Chicago details on costs are being kept secret
That detail is estimated in Chicago's Olympic 2016 bid book, which remains secret for "competitive reasons," a spokesman says.
But Los Angeles' bid, which the United States Olympic Committee rejected in favor of Chicago's plan, estimated that a West Coast summer games would have fetched about $70 for sporting events.
Tickets for the opening and closing ceremonies would have averaged $450, with some seats going as high as $950, according to the L.A. bid book recently made public. Luxury box seats for the final rounds of high-profile events would have cost as much as $600.
Chicago 2016 committee spokesman Patrick Sandusky cautioned on Monday "not to extrapolate" Chicago bid details from the L.A. plan.
But Marc Ganis of the consulting firm SportsCorp said Chicago's pricing scheme would probably be similar to the L.A. proposal. At any price, admission to top events will be hard to come by because of seats earmarked for various Olympic groups, sponsors, broadcast networks and athletes, he said.
