Readers thank their blizzard heroes

We asked readers to send in tales of blizzard heroes, strangers who went beyond the call. Here’s an edited sampling:

A good samaritan picked me up off of the snowy pavement and got me to my building after the ferocious winds sent me into the middle of the street, slamming me into a car and causing me to fall.

It happened at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Pine Grove and Irving Park. I didn’t get a chance to ask the young man his name. If he reads this, I’d like to say a big THANK YOU.

YOU LITERALLY MAY HAVE SAVED MY LIFE!

Elyce

I was shoveling out my car, street side. I had abdominal surgery in June — so this was probably not the best idea, but it needed to be done.

A young couple comes walking down Marmora and the guy asks me if he could help dig me out.

When he was done, I thanked him and said he was an angel. While I am not used to invoking things with wings, this time it seemed appropriate.

He smiled and his girlfriend laughed. She tells me his name is Angel. Never was there ever such an appropriate name.

Thanks again, Angel!!!

All of Chicago should know about our hero in Harvey.

After parking at the Harvey train station Thursday, I was horrified to see it had not been touched (over a foot of snow). Lo and behold, there was a young gentlemen shoveling.

I said, “They should have had you out here yesterday when it wasn’t so cold.” He said, “Who’s they?” I said, “The City of Harvey or Metra, whoever you work for.”

That’s when he blew my mind. He said, “My girlfriend/fiancee has to come through here when she gets off work. I want to make sure she can get through without a problem.”

All I could say was, “God Bless You and Thank You.” That made my day.

We all were so thankful for him and the girl who is loved so much. She is a very lucky young woman.
