CPS back in session Friday

Classes will resume Friday for more than 400,000 Chicago Public School students — but yellow school buses won’t hit the roads for 24,000 of them until Monday.
“We cannot risk having students on buses that may not be able to access side streets,” explained CPS spokeswoman Monique Bond.
Some 60 percent of CPS schools are located on sidestreets, she added.
Friday will count as an “excused’’ absence for bused kids who can’t
make it in, Bond said.
Meanwhile, CPS officials were still trying to determine when the two
official snow days — the first taken in 12 years — will be made
up.
And, although CPS schools will reopen Friday, many activities
will remain cancelled that day, including after-school and extended day
programs, interscholastic sports, third-shift preschool, driver’s education,
credit recovery and CPS Saturday programs, officials said.
Classes also will resume Friday at City Colleges.
