Woman in Packers jersey punched by man at bar

A woman told police she was unsure why a man punched her in the head at a Des Plaines bar Sunday night, but believes the Green Bay Packers jersey she was wearing might have instigated the attack.

The dispute occurred just after 9 p.m. at Lee Street Games and Sports Bar, 1122 S. Lee St. Police said two women, ages 28 and 31, said they were punched by a man identified as Jason E. Powell, 38, of 1469 E. Henry Ave. in Des Plaines.

One of the women said Powell approached her in the bar and punched her in the head, then struck her companion as the woman attempted to protect her.

The women told police they did nothing to provoke Powell, but the first victim was wearing a Green Bay Packers jersey and suggested her attire may have angered him, according to the police report.

The women refused to sign battery complaints against Powell, but he was charged with disorderly conduct, police said.
