Cops: Teen girl dead, 5 others hurt in Rogers Park crash
SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE
A 16-year-old girl died after the sport-utility vehicle she was inside crashed into another vehicle early Saturday in the Rogers Park neighborhood, police said. Five others were critically injured in the wreck.
The crash happened about 2 a.m. in the 2400 block of West North Shore Avenue, police said.
Rogers Park District police Lt. Donald Holmen said an SUV that was northbound on Artesian Avenue struck another vehicle that was westbound on North Shore.
After the collision, those two vehicles struck parked cars. Several people, including a 16-year-old girl who was killed, were extricated from the SUV, Holman said.
Initially after the crash, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight said six people were taken to area hospitals in serious-to-critical condition -- three to Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge, two to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston and one to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, Knight said.
An EMS Plan I -- which automatically sends five ambulances to the scene -- was called as emergency officials responded to the wreck, he said.
No citations have been written as of 10 a.m.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
