Officers charged in federal court in Chicago
2010
† Former Chicago police officer Glenn Lewellen was charged with participating in a drug ring. His case is pending.
† Chicago police officer Victor Brown was charged with lying to federal agents about accepting bribes from officers to fix Police Board cases. His case is pending.
2008
† Former Chicago police Cmdr. Jon Burge was charged with lying about whether he tortured suspects and was sentenced Friday to 41/2 years in prison.
† Chicago police officer Sean Ryan was charged with selling firearms to criminals and sentenced to four years’ probation.
† Fifteen law enforcement officers — Ayhetoro Taylor, Raphael Manuel, Jermaine Bell, Timothy Funches, Antwon Funches, Diallo Mingo, Daniel Lee, Julius Scott Jr., Richard Hall Jr. and Robert Kelly Jr. of the Cook County sheriff’s office; Archie Stallworth, Dwayne Williams, James Engram and Antoine Dudley of the Harvey Police Department; and Kyle Wilson of the Chicago Police Department — were charged in a drug conspiracy.
Antwon Funches was sentenced to three years in prison; Lee, two years; Hall, two years; Kelly, a year and a half; and Stallworth, 12 years. Their co-defendants’ cases are pending.
† Chicago police officer William Cozzi was charged with a civil-rights violation for beating a man shackled to a wheelchair. He was sentenced to 40 months in prison.
† Chicago police officers Michael Ciancio, Scott Campbell and Joseph Grillo were charged in a towing scam. Ciancio was sentenced to two years in prison; Campbell, one year of probation; and Grillo, two years’ probation.
† East Chicago, Ind., police officer Xavier Herrera was charged with drug and weapon violations and sentenced to five years in prison.
† U.S. Homeland Security deportation officer Thomas Randell was charged with accepting bribes and sentenced to three months in prison.
† Chicago police officer Deborah Ahmed-Bey was charged with bankruptcy fraud and sentenced to three years in prison and $132,000 in restitution.
† Cook County Sheriff’s police officer Rodney Quinn was charged with computer fraud and sentenced to two years’ probation.
2007
† Forest Park police Sgt. Michael Murphy was charged with striking a suspect with a baton without having a legitimate reason and sentenced to a year in prison.
† Chicago police officer Jerome Finnigan was charged with plotting the murder of another officer. His case is pending.
† Former Melrose Park Police Chief Vito Scavo and four other officers — Gary Montino, James Caputo, Guy Ric Cervone and Michael Wynn — were charged with corruption. Scavo was sentenced to six years in prison; Montino, a year and a day; Caliendo, a year and a half; Cervone, 60 days; and Wynn, a year and a day.
† Former Illinois Department of Corrections Director Donald Snyder Jr. was charged with pocketing kickbacks from contractors and sentenced to two years in prison.
† Chicago police officer Aaron Del Valle was charged with lying to a grand jury. He and a co-defendant Al Sanchez, the former Chicago streets and sanitation commissioner, are awaiting sentencing.
† Cook County Sheriff’s correctional officer Shareese Holston was charged with defrauding a federal housing program and lying to the FBI about a fugitive. She was sentenced to five years’ probation and $25,000 in restitution.
2006
† Chicago police officers Richard Doroniuk and Mahmoud Shamah were charged with stealing from drug dealers. Doroniuk was sentenced to almost 11 years in prison; Shamah, 19 years.
† Chicago police officer Tashika Sledge was charged with leaking law enforcement information to a street gang and sentenced to 10 months in prison.
† Oak Park police officer Mani Adams was charged with conspiracy to defraud the United States and sentenced to a year and a half in prison.
† Cicero police officers James DiSantis, William Peslak and Joseph Dekiel were charged with beating five people and framing them with crimes. DiSantis was sentenced to 5 1/2 years in prison; Peslak, five months; and Dekiel, two months.
† U.S. Immigration Enforcement agent Anthony Reyes was charged with embezzlement and sentenced to five years’ probation and $4,000 in restitution.
2005
† Chicago Police officers Broderick Jones, Eural Black, Corey Flagg, Erik Johnson and Darek Haynes were charged with drug conspiracy. Jones was sentenced to 25 years in prison; Black, 40 years; Flagg, 91/2 years; Haynes, 19 years; and Johnson, six years.
† Dolton Police Officer Melvin Jones was charged with drug conspiracy and sentenced to eight years in prison.
† U.S. deputy marshal John Ambrose was charged with leaking classified information to the mob and sentenced to four years in prison.
† U.S. Bureau of Prisons correctional officers Michael Hill and Anthony Hopkins were charged with conspiring to smuggle drugs into the federal lockup in Chicago. Hill was sentenced to a month in prison; Hopkins, two years.
