Teen faces 14 years after fatal DUI crash

A Bolingbrook teenager who crashed his SUV through the wall of a ground-level apartment and killed a woman sleeping inside faces up to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty Friday to felony drunken driving.
Luis Benito, 17, lacked a driver’s license but had a blood-alcohol level of .204 percent — more than twice the legal limit —when he slammed into the Bolingbrook apartment building early on Nov. 13, 2010.
The crash killed 46-year-old Josefina Prospero, who was pinned in her bed beneath the wheel of the SUV. Her husband, Juan Prospero, was sleeping next to her but escaped injury.
Benito tried to run from the crash and struggled with police while being arrested.
Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow vowed to seek a “significant” prison term when the teen is sentenced in March.
“Luis Benito’s callous decision to drive while he was drunk resulted in the tragic death of an innocent woman who should have been safe while she slept in her own bed,” Glasgow said.
