Man gets run over by Aldi truck, dies
A man died after he was run over by an Aldi truck in the grocery’s west suburban Batavia parking lot Friday morning.
At 10:24 a.m., the driver of an Aldi semi truck was backing up to move the trailer in the parking lot of the grocery store at 1200 N. Kirk Rd. when he apparently did not see a pedestrian walking behind, according to a release from Batavia police.
The 53-year-old pedestrian, Raymond Vanpelt of Aurora, was run over and taken to Delnor Hospital in Geneva where he was pronounced dead, police said. The Kane County Coroner’s office could not immediately confirm the death.
The 46-year-old truck driver from Sandwich has not been charged as of 3 p.m. as police continue to investigate.
