Ruling: Lakemoor woman can plant flowers in toilet planters
A McHenry County woman has won the right to plant flowers in her front yard in some out-of-the-ordinary planters: two toilets and a sink.
Tina Asmus, of Lakemoor, had been fined $25 last June after the police said the bathroom fixtures violated the far northwest suburb’s public nuisance ordinance.
Asmus fought the ticket, and at a hearing Wednesday, McHenry County Judge Michael Caldwell said that even though the planters didn’t appeal to him, the ordinance was misapplied. Caldwell said it’s really aimed at junk cars and unauthorized scrap metal recycling yards.
Now Asmus has the toilets filled with poinsettias for the holidays. AP
