Local whiskey brand hitting stores in November

Story Image

Chicago's legal whiskey distilling trade was wiped out by Prohibition. Now, 90 years later, a boutique Chicago distillery is aiming to bring it back.

Lion's Pride Organic Whiskey, distilled at Koval Distillery in Ravenswood, is set to reach store shelves in Chicago on Nov. 6.

Named in honor of Lion Birnecker, the son of Koval's owners Sonat and Robert Birnecker, Lion's Pride comes in four flavors -- rye, oat, dark rye and dark oat.

The whiskey joins a line of vodka, liqueurs and other spirits made in the Birneckers' copper still.
