A worker from Iowa died Wednesday morning after being injured in an incident at a chemical plant in southwest suburban Channahon.
Timothy Shields, 46, of Cedar Falls was pronounced dead at 11:04 a.m. Wednesday in the emergency room at Provena Saint Joseph's Medical Center in Joliet, according to the Will County Coroner's office.
Shields was involved in an incident at Oiltanking on the 27100 block of South Frontage Road in Channahon, according to the coroner's office.
Officials could not immediately say what caused his death and had few details on how the incident may have happened.
Channahon Fire Department crews found the man at the ground level of a site where construction work was taking place, and treated the event as an industrial accident, Fire Chief David Riddle said.
An autopsy is scheduled for later Thursday.
The Occupation Safety & Health Administration and the Will County Sheriff's office are investigating.
