Former Mayor Richard M. Daley
Mayor Daley on Saturday suggested the feds should get involved in an investigation of thousands of apparently faked notary public signatures on Chicago mayoral nominating petitions.
"There should be federal investigations, state investigations," Daley told reporters Saturday. "If I did that, the feds would be right after me tomorrow. They'd be chasing me down the street."
The Chicago Sun-Times first reported on the signatures, which appear on petitions filed by candidates Rob Halpin, Jame Meeks, Carol Moseley Braun and Patricia Van Pelt-Watkins. On Friday, the Illinois Secretary of State Police confirmed it was conducting an investigating.
