Public safety workers and about 70 volunteers joined in a search Saturday but turned up no sign of a missing 82-year-old Glencoe man with dementia.
Harvey Caplin was last seen by his wife around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when he walked away from his home near Dundee Road and Forestway Drive.
Calls that a man who might have been Caplin was seen walking on Dundee Road soon after he disappeared prompted the search Saturday from Tower Road north to Lake-Cook Road and from Forestway Drive west to the Edens Expressway.
“We didn’t find him in the area that we expected to find him,” Alan Kebby, Glencoe’s deputy police chief, said ater the search Saturday, which came after earlier efforts to find Caplin involving snowmobiles, divers, helicopters, dogs, cellphone alerts and an electronic sign on Dundee Road alerting drivers about the missing man.
The Glencoe police asked anyone who thinks they might have seen Caplin to call them at (847) 461-1135.
