Man found in Logan Square alley is 14th cold-related death of season

Updated: January 23, 2014 12:20AM

An apparently homeless man found frozen to death in an alley in the Northwest Side Logan Square neighborhood is the fourteenth cold-related death since last October in Cook County.

The man, thought to be in his 60s, was found dead in the 3200 block of West Fullerton Avenue, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Officers responded to an alley in that block about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday and found the man dead, police said. He appeared to have been homeless, and remains unidentified.

An autopsy Wednesday found he died of hypothermia because of exposure to the cold, and listed heart disease as a secondary factor, the medical examiner’s office said. His death was ruled an accident.
